Philly Steak & Cheese Fries

 

Ingredients

Main

1 pound steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank), very thinly sliced

1 teaspoon garlic salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fries

1½–2 pounds frozen French fries

(or fresh potatoes cut into fries)

Vegetables

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon butter

Cheese Sauce (Classic Philly Style)

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup whole milk

1½ cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese

(or use cheese sauce / Cheez Whiz if preferred)

Pinch of salt

 

 

 

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Fries

Prepare fries according to package directions (bake or air-fry until golden and crispy).

Set aside and keep warm.

Step 2: Cook the Vegetables

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.

Add onions and bell peppers.

Sauté for 5–7 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.

Remove from skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Steak

Heat olive oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat.

Add sliced steak.

Season with garlic salt, black pepper, and paprika.

Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until steak is browned and cooked through.

Return peppers and onions to the skillet and mix well.

 

 

 

Step 4: Make the Cheese Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.

Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.

Slowly whisk in milk until smooth.

Cook until slightly thickened.

Lower heat and stir in cheese until melted and creamy.

Add a pinch of salt.

Step 5: Assemble the Fries

Spread fries on a large serving platter or baking dish.

Top with steak, onions, and peppers.

Pour warm cheese sauce generously over the top.

Optional Baking Step

For extra melty goodness:

Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until bubbly.

 

 

 

Serving Tips

Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions

Serve immediately while hot

Add jalapeños or hot sauce for spice

Variations

Chicken Philly Fries – swap steak for chicken

Mushroom Philly Fries – add sautéed mushrooms

Loaded Version – add bacon or extra cheese
