Instructions

1. Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Cook the beef filling

In a large skillet over medium heat:

Add the ground beef and diced onion.

Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat apart as it browns.

Season with salt and pepper.

Drain any excess grease and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

3. Prepare the dough

Roll out the French bread dough on a lightly floured surface.

Shape it into a large rectangle (about 12 × 15 inches).

4. Add the toppings

Spread the filling across the dough in layers:

Spread ketchup and mustard evenly over the dough.

Add the cooked ground beef mixture.

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon.

Add the chopped pickles.

Lay the American cheese slices evenly over the filling.

5. Roll the bread

Starting from the long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, just like rolling cinnamon rolls.

Pinch the seams and ends closed so the filling stays inside.

6. Prepare for baking

Place the roll seam-side down on the baking sheet.

Brush the top with the beaten egg.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds for that classic cheeseburger look.

7. Bake

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.

8. Cool and slice

Let the garbage bread cool for 5–10 minutes, then slice into thick pieces.

Serving

Serve warm with Thousand Island dressing on the side for dipping.

You can also pair it with:

French fries

Potato wedges

Coleslaw

Tip: You can add lettuce and tomatoes after baking for an even more authentic cheeseburger flavor.
