Amish Cozy Delight

Hearty Amish-Style Comfort Casserole

This old-fashioned Amish-style casserole is rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying. It combines seasoned ground beef, tender egg noodles, a velvety cream sauce, and melted cheese baked until bubbly and golden. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or potluck!

 

 

 

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

1½ lbs ground beef

1 medium onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

12 oz wide egg noodles

1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup

1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup

1 cup sour cream

½ cup whole milk

1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)

Optional Add-Ins

1 cup frozen peas or mixed vegetables

½ teaspoon dried thyme

½ cup crushed buttery crackers (for topping)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

 

 

 

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat Oven

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.

2️⃣ Cook the Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Cook egg noodles until just shy of al dente (about 1 minute less than package directions).

Drain and set aside.

3️⃣ Brown the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat:

Cook ground beef and onion together until beef is browned and onions are soft.

Drain excess grease.

Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.

Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.

4️⃣ Prepare the Creamy Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine:

Cream of mushroom soup

Cream of chicken soup

Sour cream

Milk

Optional Worcestershire sauce

Whisk until smooth and creamy.

5️⃣ Assemble the Casserole

In a large bowl, gently mix:

Cooked noodles

Beef mixture

Creamy sauce

1 cup shredded cheese

Fold everything together until evenly coated.

Spread mixture into prepared baking dish.

Top with remaining ½ cup cheese.

(Optional: sprinkle crushed crackers on top for a crunchy finish.)

6️⃣ Bake

Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until hot and bubbly.

For a golden top, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end (watch carefully).

Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.
