Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon paprika for extra flavor

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
Cook the Ground Beef
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5–7 minutes.

Prepare the Cream Sauce
In a bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
Layer the Casserole
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.
Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
Pour some of the soup mixture over the layer and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
Repeat Layers
Add the remaining potatoes, then the remaining beef mixture, pour the rest of the soup mixture over the top, and finish with the remaining cheese.
Bake the Casserole
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
