Garlic Butter Steak & Crispy Potato Foil Packets

Garlic Butter Steak & Crispy Potato Foil Packets

My family asks for these Garlic Butter Steak & Potato Foil Packets almost every single week — and honestly, I can’t blame them. Tender bites of juicy steak, perfectly seasoned potatoes, and rich garlic butter all cook together in one easy foil packet for a meal that’s packed with flavor and unbelievably simple to make.

The smell alone is enough to make everyone gather around the table before dinner is even ready. Whether you’re making them on the grill, over a campfire, or in the oven on a busy weeknight, these foil packets deliver restaurant-style flavor with almost no cleanup.

I first made these during a last-minute lakeside picnic when I forgot to marinate the steaks we planned to grill. With only garlic, potatoes, butter, and foil on hand, I improvised — and somehow created one of the best meals we’d ever had outdoors. Since then, this recipe has become a family favorite for camping trips, summer cookouts, and cozy dinners at home.

Garlic Butter Steak & Potato Foil Packets

Ingredients

1 ½ lbs sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized cubes

1 lb baby potatoes, halved or diced

4 tablespoons butter, melted

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Optional: shredded parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes

Instructions

Prepare the potatoes

In a large bowl, toss the potatoes with olive oil, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Season the steak

Add the steak cubes to another bowl and season with Italian seasoning, garlic, salt, and black pepper.

Assemble the foil packets

Cut 4 large sheets of heavy-duty foil. Divide the potatoes evenly between the packets, then top with the steak pieces. Drizzle melted butter over everything.

Seal tightly

Fold the foil over the steak and potatoes and seal the edges tightly so the steam stays inside while cooking.

Cook

Grill: Cook over medium-high heat for 12–15 minutes, flipping once halfway through.

Oven: Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20–25 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the steak is juicy.

Serve

Carefully open the packets and sprinkle with fresh parsley, parmesan cheese, or red pepper flakes if desired. Serve hot and enjoy every buttery, garlicky bite.

Tips

For extra flavor, let the steak marinate for 30 minutes before cooking.

Use Yukon Gold or red potatoes for the best texture.

Add mushrooms, onions, or bell peppers for a complete meal in one packet.

Heavy-duty foil works best to prevent leaks and tearing.

These Garlic Butter Steak & Potato Foil Packets are smoky, buttery, savory, and incredibly satisfying — the kind of easy comfort food everyone asks for again and again.
