These Carolina-inspired pecan bars are rich, cozy, and full of Southern charm. Ingredients

For the Pecan Cake Base:

1 cup chopped pecans

2 tbsp butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

2 large eggs

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp maple extract (optional, but recommended)

For the Creamy Maple Frosting:

8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp maple extract

Instructions

Toast the Pecans:

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the chopped pecans. Toast for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and lightly golden. Set aside to cool.

Prepare the Batter:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a baking pan.

In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

In another bowl, beat eggs with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add milk, oil, vanilla, and maple extract, mixing well.

Combine & Fold:

Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until smooth. Fold in the toasted pecans.

Bake:

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.

Make the Frosting:

Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in vanilla, maple extract, and a pinch of salt until fluffy.
