1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp ground allspice
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
2 tbsp butter (for frying)
For the Creamy Gravy:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
½ cup heavy cream
Salt & pepper to taste
For the Noodles:
250–300 g egg noodles
1 tbsp butter
Salt (for boiling water)
Optional for Serving:
Fresh parsley, chopped
lingonberry jam (traditional and highly recommended)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine:
Ground beef, ground pork
Breadcrumbs + milk (let soak 1–2 minutes first)
Onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg
Mix gently until just combined (don’t overmix).
Roll into small meatballs (about 1–1½ inches / 3–4 cm).
2. Cook the Meatballs
Heat 2 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add meatballs in batches (don’t overcrowd).
Cook for 7–10 minutes, turning to brown all sides.
Once fully cooked, remove and set aside.
3. Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter.
Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
Slowly whisk in beef broth, scraping up the flavorful browned bits.
Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.
Stir in heavy cream and season with salt and pepper.
Add the meatballs back into the gravy and simmer for 2–3 minutes to soak up flavor.
4. Cook the Egg Noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Cook egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
Drain and toss with 1 tbsp butter.
5. Assemble & Serve
Place noodles on a plate.
Top with meatballs and generous gravy.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley.
Serve with a spoonful of lingonberry jam on the side for an authentic touch.
Tips:
For extra tender meatballs, don’t pack them too tightly.
If gravy gets too thick, add a splash of broth or milk.
You can bake the meatballs (200°C / 400°F for ~20 min) instead of frying for an easier option.
Result:
Juicy, spiced meatballs in a rich creamy gravy over buttery noodles—comfort food at its best
